Chiropractic Myths: Because Everyone Needs A Laugh Now And Then

Some people who are coming to their first chiropractic appointment imagine themselves walking into a sort of medieval torture chamber. They visualize the doctor as a man in a white coat who will grab your head,” yank it like a stuck jar lid” and might, accidentally, turn you into a human bobblehead. That’s funny and couldn’t be further from the truth. Here are all your myth-breakers:

Myth #1 Chiropractors aren’t “real doctors”.

You are so wrong! Dr. Livingston graduated at the top of his class from Dartmouth College and also from chiropractic college. Just like your MDs and Dos he studied anatomy, physiology, neurology, and so forth. When he hung out his shingle it was after the same long education as your MDs and Dos whom you might be thinking of as “real doctors”. Dr. Livingston also fits into your class of real doctors. The difference is he chose to specialize in making your spine well again. (BTW, he hates white coats because they always get in the way).

Myth #2 It’s going to be very painful!

For those of you who walk into a chiropractor’s office after taking 2 Tylenols and bracing for a mid-section tackle, you are way off base. The truth is that chiropractic adjustments are known to be one of the safest non-invasive treatments available for musculoskeletal issues! Here, at Livingston Chiropractic, we hear people claim over-and-over, “I wish I hadn’t waited so long for this simple, easy relief. Sometimes patients experience a small bit of soreness afterward, which is normal. You can relate it to the way you feel after a good workout. The screaming you’ve seen in cartoons – definitely not a real thing!

Myth #3: That cracking sound means something went wrong and I’m never going to be the same again!

Nothing has broken. You’re going to be the same only much better. When you hear that popping sound it is just gas being released from the fluid surrounding your joints. This process is called “cavitation.” It’s very similar to you cracking your knuckles, only now a doctor is doing it to your spine (and charging you for it). All of the patients at Livingston Chiropractic feel deeply satisfied in a way that is hard to explain until you’ve experienced it.

Myth #4: Once you start, you’re hooked for life!

At Livingston Chiropractic we’ve actually heard this a lot, and it never ceases to amuse us. This type of person thinks that chiropractic medicine is a prescription service that is eternal. This is an office favorite fable. It is so untrue!! What is true is that many patients come to Livingston Chiropractic, receive the necessary treatment, and then move on with their lives. There are also some patients who choose to continue with ongoing maintenance visits. This is their personal choice.  It is definitely not a biological dependency. Your spine will not go into withdrawal.

Myth #5: Chiropractic only treats back pain

What is true here is that back pain is the number one reason patients walk into Livingston Chiropractic. But Dr. Livingston also treats neck pains, headaches, joint issues, and more.

Back pain is the big one, sure. But, additionally, Livingston Chiropractic treats neck pain, headaches, joint issues, and a whole range of other musculoskeletal problems. What is not commonly know is that Livingston Chiropractic also treats headaches and migraines, dizziness and vertigo, stress and sleep disorders, digestive issues, pediatric colic and ear infections, and asthma!

Most people swear by Dr. Livingston for any of the above ailments. There are some who come in “hunched over like a question mark and walk out standing like an exclamation point.”  As you can see, the scope at Livingston Chiropractic is very wide.

So here you have it in a nutshell (not a cracked one) Dr. Livingston is a real doctor. The cracking won’t harm you and we don’t make you sign a lifetime contract. Instead, we make the magic happen. Call Livingston Chiropractic at 440-528-0005 #1.
